The Other Sky
The sky above your actual location, at the actual time, with real celestial mechanics — your horizon, the real Sun's twilight, tonight's real Moon phase, the real planets. Only the stars have been replaced, with a galaxy generated star by star from a single number.
- 35,903 stars, each with a real 3-D velocity
- 82 constellations, none of them drawn by hand
- 0.005° agreement between two independent solar theories
- ~10 ms a frame, no server, no data files

Why any of this exists
I like problems where the interesting part is the part nobody would notice. A star chart that gets the limiting magnitude right when the Moon is up. A name generator whose names can be translated back.
Everything here is built to be opened, poked at and understood. No sign-ups, no accounts, nothing that phones home.
